I woke up in a dream
I was holding on tight and hoping you might
be more than you seem
Under the covers thinking another
thought inside my head
Too soon to get up, to late to stay in bed
I woke up from my dreams
I was giving into the things that I knew
that I could never be
Poking my head out, settling the dust clouds
that form inside my head
no reason to try, so I gave up instead
And when I finally find out
I sputter down and fall out
and when I finally get out
I’ll turn around and burn out
I woke up to my dream
I was thumbing through thougts and thinking I ought
to take one for the team
Program my cell phone and map my route to get home
and keep it in my head
Reminding myself of the books I never read
And when I finally find out
I sputter down and fall out
and when I finally get out
I’ll turn around and burn out
